background

The IPEN Adolescent Coordinating Center grant has recently been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Heart, Lung and Blood Institute! We have been busy developing surveys, protocols and guidelines to help our IPEN countries get off the right start with comparable methods, measures and protocols. We will make these documents available as they are developed by posting them on this site.

We had a successful kick-off meeting at ICPAPH in Sydney in October 2012 with almost all countries represented. The presentations are available for download here.

Although the grant officially started in September 2012, there are restrictions on using the funds for international data collection pending a few additional government reviews.  For those countries that are funded through this grant, we expect funds to be fully released in early 2013. However, please keep in mind that we cannot release all funds at the same time. We need to distribute funding rather evenly throughout a 2-year period so we will work with you on a timeline that works with the overall budget. Also, please keep in mind that setting up subcontracts between universities takes time, sometimes up to 6 months. For all countries, even if not funded but are participating as primary or secondary IPEN countries, we will work with you on developing your methods and measures and are able to provided trainings in IPEN GIS and accelerometer protocols.  We can do this before your funding comes in if necessary.
