Network Criteria There are five levels of possible participation in the network, from being a Network Member, to contributing specially-collected data for joint country analysis. Level One: Network only - you will receive emails about IPEN projects and information on Physical Activity and the Environment, we will help to publicize your research on the IPEN website. In return we hope that you publicize IPEN and send us updates on work from your country. Just email me and confirm your interest - if your name is not already on the members list! And please send me email addresses of other potential members. Level Two: Developmental work- for example translating and testing the IPEN survey items, conducting formative research to develop additional environment measures appropriate to your country or for use in special populations (e.g. children), conducting small pilot studies. This work would mostly been done on convenience samples. We can provide you feedback on development of scales, make suggestions for statistical procedures, provide letters of support if funding is required. We will help publish your results through special journal issues, as co-authors, or by organizing special IPEN conference symposia. Level Three: Self report data- Large scale surveys with a study design to maximize environmental variability of study areas: using the core IPEN self-report survey items (e.g. the NEWS) and measuring physical activity with the long IPAQ in population samples in specially selected neighborhoods that vary in their walkability. We can provide examples of our grant proposals and letters of support, as well as give feedback on proposals in English. We will help publish your results through special journal issues, as co-authors, or by organizing special IPEN conference symposia. These data could also be pooled for an international comparison. Level Four: Objective data: GIS and/or Accelerometer - in addition to self-report measures, environmental variables are measured objectively using GIS and census data, and/or participants wear accelerometers for objective measures of physical activity. These data will be pooled for international comparison. We can provide examples of our grant proposals and letters of support, as well as feedback on proposals in English. We can act as (paid) consultants and provide specialised training. We will help publish your results through special journal issues, as co-authors, or by organizing special IPEN conference symposia. We will also try to get "international" funding for this level of research. Level Five: Neighborhood Observations - in addition to three and four, observations of pedestrian infrastructure, parks and recreation facilities are conducted. We can provide examples of our grant proposals, procedural manuals and letters of support, as well as feedback on proposals in English. We can act as (paid) consultants and provide specialized training. We will help publish your results through special journal issues, as co-authors, or by organizing special IPEN conference symposia.
