Core Survey items

We would like IPEN members to draw upon the NQLS survey items, where possible.

As the name suggests, Neighborhood Quality of Life Study, we were investigating more than physical activity and the environment.

Participants in NQLS completed 2 surveys six months apart.

Part of the first NQLS survey was the NEWS. This is section B-J of the first survey. This is one of the core items that we would like IPEN members to use. More information on the original NEWS can be found on this website. We have also now abbreviated the NEWS. More information on the ANEWS is also available. We are aware that some members have already started their research using the longer NEWS. We are therefore making both versions available for use.

In addition we suggest IPEN members investigate home exercise equipment and availability of recreation facilities. These are sections K-L of the first survey.

Another part of the first NQLS survey is the long IPAQ. This is sections N-S of the first survey. This is one of the core items that we would like IPEN members to use. More information on the IPAQ can be found on this website.

We also recommend that IPEN members collect similar demographic variables. These are sections AA and BB on the first survey.

On the second survey we suggest using section A, F, G and H.

Both full surveys are available to download. IPEN members should feel free to use any of the other items in the surveys. We also recommend that you develop additional items that are pertinent to your country and research interests.
